Applies to: Corporate Managers, Multi-hotel Managers
Year 2020 is anything but ordinary. The pandemic has blown business norms and regular practices out of the water. Covid-19 has also changed your role as a corporate manager overseeing multiple properties. You need visibility into hotel operations today more than ever in order to guide the hotels inside your portfolio during the challenging times and support them through recovery.
Before the pandemic, it was easy for hotels to make up for labor overspend due to ineffective scheduling, overtime, or productivity issues in any given day or week. This is no longer the case as occupancy fluctuates with more variables and economic uncertainty. Even the most experienced hotel operators find it tricky to manage staffing and scheduling effectively.
We have added a series of email alerts as well as in-app reports uniquely designed for corporate or multi-hotel managers utilizing PerfectLabor™. The HOPS alerts and reports make it easy for you to look at hotel operations from four key perspectives: Housekeeping, Overtime, Profitability, and Schedule cost.
- Housekeeping is the biggest cost and most variable department in hotel labor. Paying close attention to your housekeeping productivity will pay a dividend in your bottom line.
- Overtime comes with a hefty price tag -- watch it like a hawk to prevent and eliminate unnecessary overtime and save money.
- Path to Profitability involves a unique operating metric called Revenue vs Labor. It’s calculated by taking the hotel’s total revenue minus total labor. The remainder can be contributed to your Gross Operating Profit (GOP). If the Revenue vs Labor is positive and improves week to week, your hotel is managing the labor correctly on the upswing. If it’s running negative, there is no way the hotel can help contribute to the GOP.
- Schedule Cost gives corporate managers advance warning if next week’s schedule will be profitable and if it is planned effectively across the group of hotels under your supervision.
Paying attention to the HOPS data will enable you to conduct informed and timely conversations with your property managers and help them make deliberate decisions in keeping labor cost in line with your staffing guidelines (a.k.a. labor standards or labor plan) and within the budget. Whether your hotels are in recovery or will be back to business as usual in the future, we highly recommend that you subscribe to the HOPS email alerts and review the reports in Hotel Effectiveness on a regular basis.
Pro Tip
In order for the HOPS alerts and reports to show meaningful data, your hotels must enter and publish schedules in Hotel Labor Scheduler. They also need to enter the number of rooms cleaned by room attendant through Night Audit Entry or Housekeeping Gameday in Hotel Effectiveness.
